The category is full of noise — generic "PC boosters" rebranded for gaming, and outright malware. Here is how to tell the useful ones apart, and an honest note about when you do not need one at all.

The "let you undo it" point matters more than people expect. A tool that changes forty Windows settings with no way back leaves you troubleshooting for an evening when something unrelated breaks.
